Tips on watching F1 races

Everyone has their own set of tips to make their Formula 1 experience in Singapore more enjoyable, but getting the best out of the big sporting event will require some planning.

Support races start as early as 3pm, but it is best to avoid driving to the Marina Bay F1 Grand Prix venue. One is encouraged to take advantage of public transport and allow extra time for security screening.

"Just walk around during the practice a little bit. Don't sit all the time. Take your camera," one spectator advised.

Navigating around the 5.1-kilometre street circuit will also be more enjoyable when you are dressed in comfortable attire. "Short pants and track shoes. I think T-shirts are the best," another offered.

While some fans may enjoy the roar of the engines, others may prefer to block it out with earplugs.

Most of the F1 race track is exposed to the natural elements, so spectators are expected to make their own preparations for bad weather.

However, spectators are not advised to carry umbrellas because they could endanger the lives of F1 drivers if they get blown onto the race track.

Ponchos are recommended instead to ensure that the F1 race remains a safe experience for all those involved.

With an expected crowd of some 80,000 spectators, organisers said clearing out of the venue could take up to two hours.

To pass time, viewers could stay on and enjoy performances by Singapore and international artistes within the circuit park.
