Universal Studios Singapore's ticketing website overwhelmed with bookings
Tickets for Universal Studios Singapore theme park went on sale at 9am Wednesday morning, but some people were left frustrated when they tried to book tickets online and on the phone as they were unable to get through due to overwhelming demand.
Some resorted to going down to the box office at Resorts World Sentosa to get their tickets.
MediaCorp could not make an online booking when it tried to do so at 4.00pm. The hotline was also busy.
Resorts World Sentosa spokesperson, Robin Goh, said the difficulties were caused by overwhelming demand on the system.
He said the system was tested before going "live", but Wednesday's response was "unforeseen".
Mr Goh said steps are being taken to rectify the problem. "We have actually increased the number of hotline stations. It's just that at any one time, we can easily get thousands of calls trying to call in to book tickets. So that's a little bit of a stretch for us."
"But what is happening is that we have increased manpower and the number of hotline stations, in the hope that this will alleviate the situation," he said.
Mr Goh said another channel for bookings has been created. Those unable to buy tickets online or get through the hotline can send a purchase request via email.
They can expect a response within 48 hours.
The theme park is slated to open on March 18.
